We Love… Samantha Young

For this interview I would like to present one of my dearest writers. She created one of the best series I have ever read- On Dublin Street Series- and her talent goes beyond this, currently offering the readers another amazing series- Hart’s Boardwalk. I love how she introduced me to a big family that kept on expanding, connecting me with the characters and made me feel at HOME. This is what it’s all about in her books.. You feel at home and the characters are your friends or part of your family.  You live at full intensity with them, you love them, cry with them and feel happy when they finally have the ending they deserve. This interview is very special to me and I hope you’ll enjoy it:) I give you the amazing Samantha Young 🙂

Ramona: To start with, please share something about yourself with the readers 🙂 

Samantha: I’ve been told when I sneeze I sound like a cartoon mouse. Random. But true.

Ramona: What inspires you to write every day?

Samantha: Life experiences, the people around me, music is a huge inspiration, books, movies, art. I’ve always put my thoughts down on paper, since I was a kid. Writing professionally is just that on a grander scale.

Ramona: What do you like to do besides writing?

Samantha: I love reading. Huge bookworm. Walking, Pilates, chasing after my rambunctious dogs, hanging out with friends, family, going to the theater, to the ballet, to music gigs. Eating out. And continuing my life’s mission to find the world’s greatest cheeseburger.

Ramona: What is your biggest dream when referring to writing and publishing?

Samantha: To write and publish books for the rest of my life.

Ramona: Do you have certain tricks that make writing easier?

Samantha: Planning for me is my greatest trick. I write out a full proposal for my book because everything just falls apart if I try to jump in with no plan. Also writing is always easier if you choose subjects you can personally relate to. If you write about a subject you’re not familiar with I suggest research, but I also believe writers have to be like an actor too. In order to make your characters believable, you have to immerse yourself in their psyche so that your words sound authentic. Authenticity is the only way to make your characters relatable to readers, and you can’t move your readers if your characters aren’t authentic.

Ramona: What books would you recommend to your readers?

Samantha: Anything by Mia Sheridan, Claire Contreras, LH Cosway, Penny Reid, Penelope Douglas, Emma Chase, Kristen Callihan, Helena Hunting, Elle Kennedy, Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland, Elle Casey, Sally Thorne, Lisa Kleypas, Georgia Cates, Rachel Higginson, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Sarina Bowen, Joanna Wylde, Tillie Cole, Tiffany Snow, Jay Crownover, Kate Meader, Tracey Garvis Graves, Colleen Hoover, Tammara Webber, Julianna Keyes, Anne Stuart, Kim Karr, Samantha Towle, Alice Clayton… and that’s just in contemporary romance!

Ramona: Why choose Scotland for the amazing On Dublin Street Series?

Samantha: I’m Scottish and I really wanted everything about On Dublin Street to feel as real as possible. It made sense to set the series somewhere I knew as well as I knew myself.

Ramona: What was the most difficult and easiest book to write from this series?

Samantha: The most difficult to write and easiest to write were one in the same – On Dublin Street. It was difficult to write because it was very personal, but that’s also what made it the easiest to write.

Ramona: What is the couple you are most proud of from your books?

Samantha: It sounds like a cop out (it’s not, I promise!) but I’m really proud of all of the couples for different reasons. They all represent something personal to me/those around me, and I feel like they all go through an important journey that means something to me and hopefully to my readers, too.

Ramona: What book do you think is 100% Samantha Young?

Samantha: Before Jamaica Lane. The heroine, the hero, the banter, the issues, the humor. There is a whole lot of me in that book!

Ramona: With what hero from your books would you go on a date with? 😀

Samantha: As much as Braden will always be my number one because he brought so many readers into my life, I actually think I’d have the best time on a date with Nate. He’s funny and charming, and knows how to make a woman feel at ease within herself.

Ramona: How do you deal with bad reviews? Do they discourage you or do you manage to see the constructive part of them?

Samantha: As long as the reviews are constructive, I definitely see the merit in them. Reviews help you become a better writer, and to discover what it is that readers are enjoying and not enjoying in your writing.

Ramona: Describe the feeling when you hear that your book is currently number 1 in various tops.

Samantha: It feels truly surreal. It’s hard to compute. But it’s thrilling and it leaves you with a real sense of accomplishment – that you wrote something that really moved readers.

Ramona: What book prize would be your dream to win?

Samantha: I’ve never really thought about book prizes. When I was a kid all I wanted to be was a New York Times Bestseller, and it’s surreal for that dream to have come true. I guess, because it’s readers’ choice, it would be wonderful to one day receive a Goodreads Choice Award.

Ramona: What is your relationship with your readers? Could you please share a short message with them?

Samantha: I think I have a really great relationship with my readers – it’s very positive. I try to keep them involved and up-to-date on what’s going on as much as possible, and to remind them all the time how much I appreciate them. I love you, guys! I wouldn’t have my dream career without you, and I can promise that is something I will never let myself forget. xx
