We Love… L.H.Cosway

lhcoswayI am very nervous about this interview because when she agreed to answer my questions I flipped out… It was truly amazing to talk to L.H.Cosway, one of my favorite authors, who brought us The Hearts series, Showmance, Painted Faces or the amazing books in collaboration with Penny Reid.

She has such a genuine style, full of wonderful characters in diverse situations that keeps you excited and nervous until the very end. It was love at first read for me when I opened Six of Hearts and after that I became a devoted fan, reading almost everything she published.

The romance, the drama, the angst, the sad and happy tears are all present in every book L.H.Cosway writes 🙂 I hope you enjoy in getting to know her better.

Ramona: To start with, please share something about yourself with the readers.
L.H: Hello everyone! L.H. Cosway here. I’m a contemporary romance author from Dublin, Ireland and I write books set mostly in the UK and Ireland.

Ramona: Why writing and not something else?
L.H: Ever since I can remember, making up stories has been my favorite past time. I guess if I could find a way to turn that into a career I was always going to do it.

Ramona: Do you admire Contemporary Romance writers? Which ones?
L.H: Of course! Some of my favorites include Penny Reid, Mariana Zapata, Colleen Hoover and Kylie Scott. There are so so many more but those are the first that spring to mind.

Ramona: I know that music is your inspiration. What kind of music do you listen to?
L.H: I listen to all sorts of music. In my opinion there are gems to be found in every genre. At the moment I’m listening to a lot of piano based music because the heroine I’m writing is a singer-songwriter who plays piano.

Ramona: What does your collaboration with Penny Reid mean to you?
L.H: It means the world to me. I have so much love, adoration and respect for her, so the fact we get to write books together is a dream come true.

Ramona: How important is research when writing a book?
L.H: It depends on the book and the storyline. Six of Hearts, for instance, took a lot of in-depth research because it deals with complicated magic tricks and a revenge plot. But then you have Painted Faces, which didn’t take a whole lot of research because it wasn’t very plot heavy and I was mostly drawing from my own interests.

Ramona: With what couple from the Hearts Series do you relate the most? Personally, I love Alexis and Oliver…Their story is so dramatic but so romantic at the same time, I still have a smile on my face when thinking about them 🙂
L.H: Alexis and Oliver are definitely up there. In particular Alexis was a very enjoyable heroine to write. And I guess Matilda and Jay will always have a special place in my heart because it all started with them.

Ramona: What was the most difficult and easy book to write from this series?
23488088

L.H: The easiest book to write was Hearts of Fire. I’m not sure why but it took the least time to write and just seemed to flow out of me. I think it gets harder the further I get into the series, because I have to try harder to make it original and not repeat myself.

Every author has their favorite themes that we’re prone to repeating. In this sense I guess Thief of Hearts was the hardest because it’s book #5 and I had to try harder to make it unique.

Ramona: What hero from your books would you go on a date with?:D Oliveeeeer!!!!!!:D
L.H: Probably Nicholas from Painted Faces because it’d be the most fun and we could go see a drag show.

Ramona: Speaking of Nicholas, where did you get the inspiration for Painted Faces? I loved the idea so much and after all my reading, it is still one of the original ideas I have even read about.

L.H: I didn’t get it from any one place, it was a whole range of inspirations, from Priscilla Queen of the Desert to cabaret music to cross dressing in general. They all combined in my head to create Painted Faces.

Ramona: Who helps you with the covers? They are all amazing and it is impossible to choose a favorite 🙂
L.H: Letitia from RBA Designs makes all of my covers. She is hugely talented.

Ramona: What is your favorite quote from your books? Mine is : “Well, then, Mr King, if I do get chosen for the position, I’ll have to prove to you that my looks pale in comparison to what my brain can achieve.”
L.H: I have too many! But probably this one from Six of Hearts: “So why not live with the magic? Be a kid again and believe in the fantastical. Life is more fun with a little smoke and mirrors.”

27999779Ramona: What surprises do you have in store for us?
L.H: After I release Hearts on Air this summer I have a brand new 2-part serial that I’ll be working on. I can’t say much about it yet, but I’m hoping to publish it later this year.

Ramona: What is your relationship with your readers? Can you please send a message to them?
L.H: I love my readers most of all. They’re the reason I get to write stories for a living and I just love being able to connect with them one on one, whether it’s online or at a book signing. It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to talk to people who’ve been touched by your stories and get to know so many different people from different cultures all over the world.
