My rating: 3/5 stars

I started this book while I was on vacation, so I was very relaxed when reading it. I thought it would be an easy read and maybe a 4 or 5 stars, but it was not quite like that…

The book tells the story of Harley and Gavin, an in-house nanny and a widower, who reconnect after years of seeing each other. Harley had a crush on Gavin since she was 19 and tried one night to kiss him, leading Gavin to reject her and afterward, leave the city with his newborn daughter, Peyton. After 10 years they see each other again and try to be friends, only to find themselves in a very attractive situation, which will lead to many adventures.

The story was nice and promised much, but my problem was the way it was written and the dialogue. The book was unnecessarily long because the dialogue kept on forever over small talk or irrelevant information, which was not important for the plot. Or from my POV, it didn’t add value to the plot…

I liked Harley as a role model and I enjoyed seeing a character being so in love with children. She was truly an example and her patience and way of acting were really nice. She is also very mature for her age and I think the author really did a good job in her potretization.

I loved her dynamic with Payton and seeing how somebody can be so loving and patient with a child is really nice. She is definitely made to be a mother, a true example for all women.

Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about Gavin… I didn’t like him and I didn’t like how controlled he was by his mother-in-law. At that age and after being through that much, he should have been more determined and confident about what to do. He looked scared and confused and I expected more from him.

The read was nice, but long and not that very eventful. It followed their relationship from friends to lovers and the changes that needed to be made in order to leave the past behind and move on. The message was nice, but the execution lacked something, making the plot a little boring. Sorry 😦
