Rating: 4/5 stars

This is a kind of book that works very well with teenagers. Fantasy, vampires, dragons, and witches are all together in this supernatural series which spiked my attention and I really began to love it. This is a cool combination between Twilight and Harry Potter, with its own twist and charm.

Grace has been left without her parents and moves to Alaska, where her uncle is the headmaster of the Katmere Academy. All fun and games until she arrives in a totally strange place, where all the kids seem to hate her and want her dead. Alaska is no place for a 17-year-old, but Grace is determined to start something here and to leave behind her grief. Jaxon Vega is the most popular guy in school but also hard to approach. He is cold, mysterious, and doesn’t seem to care about anybody but himself. Apparently, Grace can read behind that mask and their connection is something that they haven’t seen before.

The book is fast-paced, with short chapters that are interconnected and always leave you on a cliffhanger. The obvious reaction will be to keep on reading because what is happening is purely addictive.

I liked the dynamic of the story and it made me read and read. I liked the suspense in the second half of the book and think it was really well written. I am not particularly a fan of the characters, and I think this is why I gave the story 4 stars instead of 5.

I am not Grace’s fan because I consider her a little slow and not a very good leading lady. For now, I think that her hormones are taking over and she needs to calm down. 😀 As for Jaxon, he didn’t convince me of being a lead male. Maybe it’s just the first book, but his presence didn’t overwhelm me or make me constantly think of him. I can’t put my finger on it yet, but he is lacking something that maybe I’ll find in the next books… or not : D
