My rating: 3/5 stars
I don’t know why, but I rarely read Hispanic books. That’s a terrible idea, btw, because the blend between Spanish and English is off the charts, giving the read dynamic and another twist, which is very nice.
I chose “You Had Me at Hola” for the cover because it’s beautiful and it really motivates the reader to buy it. The story of the book was not OMG, but it was comforting and it gave you access to behind-the-scenes of making a soap opera, with Latin protagonists. Jasmine and Ashton had a very hot and cold relationship, but considering their background, personal life, and experiences, getting involved with your co-star is not an easy decision.
Jasmine is trying to be the lady her family wants her to be and that includes not falling always in love with somebody she is working with. Her heart got broken so many times and this just has to stop. Ashton has a secret, a well-guarded one, but he needs the spotlight and the money because his dream needs to become a reality.
When they partner to shoot a remake of a famous telenovela, Jasmine and Ashton feel the chemistry, but they need to keep it at bay, for both their sakes. They don’t need scandals and complications and just try to focus on their careers. Easier said than done.
The book was an easy read, behind the scenes of actors who we think have the perfect life. The story describes their struggles, the way they manage to blend professional with personal, but overall, how to have a normal life and the basics of it. Pay attention, this is not a YA book, because the details are really spicy. 😀
