My rating: 3.5/5 stars

I’ve read this book actually by mistake because I bought it not knowing it was a half-book/novella. I am not crazy about novellas, because they are short and rushed and I need to feel the whole story in order to proper rank a book. But considering I had it, I needed to see what it was about and why all the Romance/Fantasy ideas are around fairies…

We all know who are the best fairies in the house and when I see that other author are trying their interpretation, I am just curious to see if they managed to surpass the original, but of course, they cannot do that. ACOTAR will forever be one of the greatest fantasy books and even if an inspiration, many authors can not bring that essence and that originality.

So, Gesela lost her family, and her village is cursed. When she is forced by the villagers to get into a well and kill a toad that apparently is the cause of a drought, she realizes that she made a mistake, because that toad was a magical creature and now, her brothers are after her. Transported into a magical place, Gesela is forced by the ruler, The Prince of Thorns – Casamir, to stay there and help him not forget his name. To do that, she must guess his REAL name, say it with love, and all this in only 7 days. Easy, right????

This is the plot of the novella and as you can see, the idea is not bad, but because you have to wrap it up in 200 pages, the ideas are rushed and the development is FAST. In only 7 days, Gesela will hate Casamir, go from that to love, and in the meantime, discover the enchanted world of fairies and understand what it means to live there. And I almost forgot, she will practically find love in a very short time, EXPLICIT love if you know what I mean…

I cannot rate this more than 3.5 stars because, for a 200-page story, it was OK, but not extraordinary and satisfying… It kept you in a certain tension and made you wonder together with Gesela what is Casamir’s real name, but other than that… it had a lot of sex scenes that implied instant lust and I am not a fan of those… So I don’t know if to recommend it or not…If Scarlett had gone for a whole book, maybe I would have rated it higher. 🙂
