My rating: 3.5 stars
I am a huge fan of this series, I got the book at preorder and just waited to have it on my shelves. I was excited for this couple, even though Sloane was not my favorite, because she seemed very off and cold. But I knew Ana would have a plan for her and that plan began with an X.
Unfortunately, I don’t know what happened with this book or maybe it was just me. I’ve read it in multiple breaks and in a 3 week period, and maybe that was the problem. But I really don’t blame myself for the issue, because if the book had been dynamic, maybe my interest would have been better.
I found the story a little boring and without any tension or mystery. It revolved much around Sloan’s family issues and trust problems and Xavier’s quest for his inheritance and finding his passion. The sloth element of the title is his, because he never did not than partying and drinking, and now he wants to prove that he can run a business and succeed.
The story was not there, we only saw the way the relationship between Sloane and Xavier turned from professional to lovers, but besides that, nothing truly happened. I think I am most angry about that, that the length of the book was not justified and there were a lot of pages which didn’t deserve to be there. The focus was made on Xavier’s inheritance, but in the end, the tension element was not there and even if the author wanted to bring a little drama, it was easy and unimportant.
I gave it 3.5 stars because of Xavier because he was there all along, he was the one who fell first and was persistent in his relationship with Sloane. I liked him, I loved his maturity and path to reaching his goals. He was the better half. Sloane was a little infuriating because I DON’T GET IT. I am having a hard time connecting to adults who have these trust issues and who find it so hard to get attached. I just didn’t understand the drama and I think it was because of that I was not into the story.
