My rating: 5/5 stars
This review will be written for all the series because it will be complicated to split my ideas into 3. I LOVED these books and for an adult person like myself, I felt completely in love with the story and with the trope. If you feel like high-school romance only needs to be read by teenagers, well think again!
James and Ruby delivered a romance like no other, with drama, lots of banter, and sarcasm, but also with family ties and problems. They grew up in completely different environments, but although money is the problem of their rift, James lingers for what Ruby has – love from her parents.
To put a little context into the story, James Beaufort is heir to one of the richest families in the UK, with lots of history in the retail business. He will take over the business and he doesn’t need any distractions from that. He also loved the lacrosse game and after doing something he was not supposed to do, he will be expelled from the team and will be put into the event organization team led by Ruby. The enemies-to-lovers trope is on full display here and it began very strong. Through the story, Ruby and James begin to soften up, like each other, and eventually fall in love, but everyone is against their story, especially James’ father.
I loved the series and how it was made because the first book presents us with the characters and sets up the relationship, the second one is more complex, with other perspectives from other characters and the third one is the final battle, in which everyone has to fight for their happiness. It’s a little difficult to fight when you have everything against you, but Ruby and James managed to vanquish their fears and be brave. I might have to say that I liked James better, even though he took his time figuring out what he wanted. He was hot and cold, and the lack of communication with Ruby killed me. But from the final POV, he was more complex, with more questions and things to figure out. Ruby on the other hand annoyed me a little with her Oxford obsession and the fact that she wanted WITH ALL COST to be there. Her linear behavior was not my cup of tea, but together with James, they made a really solid couple.
Read the books and then enjoy the series, because it’s out on Amazon Prime.
