My rating: 3.5 stars

I’ve been giving this rating some thought and I couldn’t give it 4 full stars, because my heart was just not in it. So it’s fair to give it 3.5 stars and declare it good, considering the book and the story behind it.

Elsie Silver is a first-read author for me, I haven’t read any of her books but I’ve heard that her style is unique and good. The reviews were right, I loved her writing style and her storytelling, making me a fan almost instantly. “The Chestnut Series” was very popular when I began to read it, so it was my first choice.

Although the story of Summer and Rhett was light and without lots of drama, it made me very aware of the emotional aspects of a relationship and the compromises you must make to fulfill your love.

Rhett is a bull rider and a very famous one, too. After letting his fury get the best of him, he lost a lots of his sponsors and his whole career is in danger. In order to keep him steady and without incidents, his manager Kip is giving his daughter Summer the mission to shadow Rhett and keep him in line until the competitive season is over. Summer will love Rhett’s ranch and will keep an eye on him. But – of course, there is a but, the 2 of them will develop strong feelings for each other, amplifying Summer’s crush on Rhett.

The story is not complicated, because Summer and Rhett will spend time together and they will learn how to deal with their past, and secrets but also different worlds. It will be a challenge for them because they both have reasons to be afraid, but the connection shared is well worth it. I loved the way the author created this bond and believe me, I had my share of romantic stories. Elsie manages to portray so well the fears of her characters and makes them be so transparent with the readers, that you actually feel what they feel.
