My rating: 5/5 stars
I am not a Dark-Romance enthusiast, but this series had something that just drove my attention to another level. I like story-tales and if they are changed and crafted into another form, I am in.
“Hooked” is a retelling of the Peter Pan story, but with a dark twist. All the characters are scrambled, the story goes darker, and most importantly, all the heroes are evil. So, if you are looking for a good guy, with good intentions and a soft side, you won’t find him in this book. James, the hero of the story, is cruel and bad, with no boundaries, and will stop at nothing to avenge his parent’s death. His number 1 enemy is Peter and he will do whatever it takes to kill him, even using his daughter Wendy as a weapon. It sounds soooo cool, I loved the plot immediately.
So, coming back to the story, James wants revenge on Peter for killing his family and will enter the dark life of drugs. He is a drug dealer and criminal, with no mercy for his rivals. His childhood was full of abuse and bad treatment by his uncle and because of that, he is practically soulless. Wendy is not having the best life, growing up without a mother, raising her brother John, and being neglected by her father. His business was always more important, because he was also a notorious drug dealer, so in this, he was a direct rival to James, who runs by the name of Hook.
I gave this story 5/5 because I thought it was really cool and twisted and dark, with soooo many twist. There were unpredictable and predictable ones, but it was complex. The love story was sooo twisted and insane, but it had that effect on you, even if you are aware that James is not the healthiest person out there. All together, the plot was very good, it had connections from the Peter Pan storyline and even if all the context changed, I couldn’t stop reading. I also bought the whole series, because I find it quite amazing.
