My rating: 3.5 stars/5

When I read the book’s blurb, I was unprepared for this surprise, especially for the age gap presented. I JUST LOVED IT!! Penelope was this way of making me addicted to her stories and keeping the fandom alive and well. I am much in love with her writing and I consider her one of my favorite Romance authors, but over a certain thing we can agree – her stories are not what they were some years ago.

I might be a broken record, but the difference is more than notable and there are things I want to see back in her stories, like the complete plot. In the old Penelope books, the stories were complex, with action, with actual things happening, but in her new books, the importance is more on the relationship between the characters. I am not saying that the approach is not ok, but when you forget to insert action and dynamics into a story, it might result in a boring atmosphere.

Emily was offered a job she was not expecting and she ended up travelling with a famous rock band. The lead singer, Tristan, is very charismatic and their connection was almost instant, therefore they hit it off very nicely and began a friendship-like relationship. The attraction is palpable, but because of the age gap and the fact that they are working together, they don’t “engage”. 😀

The thing that we could all feel is that Emily and Tristan have a very good bond, generated by physical attraction, but mainly because they see each other perfectly, with all good and bad. This type of connection was very well underlined and this is why I said above that Penelope is super at highlighting emotions, but often forgets about action and plot.

I was not a fan of either Emily or Tristan, but I felt their connection and even if the age gap was significant, it didn’t bother me at all. There is a plot twist (the only one) in the book which was a little surprising, but all together, it didn’t develop more into the book as I wanted. If you ask me, it was a little boring and it brought an unnecessary length to the book. I don’t know… Maybe I was not very sensitive on this subject, or maybe not in the mood, but I just cannot escape this feeling that Penelope is not writing as she used to do.
