My rating: 5/5 stars
This is a series I’ve enjoyed throughout these 4 volumes, but in the back of my mind, I wanted to make a ranking and see which one was my favorite. I didn’t have a clear picture, but after finishing this book it was clear as daylight – “The Rules of Dating a Younger Man” is the best book from this series and you cannot convince me otherwise.
I couldn’t rank the boys exactly because I felt something was off and I needed to have a deeper connection with one of them. What do you know? I felt that Brayden had been created exactly for me because I approved everything he said and did and I SOOOO rooted for him from start to finish. There are books where you don’t entirely agree with the behavior or actions of a character, but in this book, the hero is PERFECT.
Brayden and Alex met while working together for Ryan’s House, to build houses near hospitals for people who cannot afford it. The loss brought them together and their connection was almost instant, even though there was a very funny misunderstanding at the beginning. The whole plot revolves around their attempt to build a relationship while having separate lives and coming from different worlds. Not to mention having to accept the age gap – well, here Alex had more difficulties…
The only problem is that Alex immediately retreated, considering Brayden too young for her, but never revealing her age to him. So, we have an age gap but don’t know exactly how much. Honestly, it didn’t even matter, because their bond was so intense and so nice to read about, you just don’t care. Age is indeed just a number.
The relationship between Alex and Brayden was intense, and very strong but full of doubts and it became a chase, in which I wanted badly for him to win in record time. It didn’t happen that way, because Penelope and Vi had their plot all figured out and added on top of doubts and prejudice drama, to spice the dynamic even more.
Brayden won me over in record time and I loved him for being so considerate and patient. It must have been hard for him to always put the brakes on and not show how much he loves Alex. He put her first and it killed me to see him hurt and always questioning if he did the correct thing. He had the maturity necessary to understand the situation and I liked this evolution of Brayden in the series.
Alex was not my favorite heroine of all time, even though I understood her doubts and her fears to start over. It just felt that she always put Brayden last and I would have wanted her to fight more for her love. Some things were clearly exaggerated in their obstacles and the fact that she always second-guessed it made me a little mad. She had a very hard life and I understood her, but her feelings were clear and it would have been nice to accept them. But what is life without some drama??
So, if you want an intense read, with a delightful hero who will stop at NOTHING to have what he wants, this story has to be on your list. From my POV, it was the best from the series and it caught me without any doubt.
