My rating: 5/5 stars

I was so not expecting this book to hit me like it did. I knew it was about serial killers and twisted stories, but what I read here is so much more than a Thriller or a love story. This weird combination made me fall hard in love and I am officially addicted to this trilogy by Brynne Weaver.

Butcher and Blackbird are our 2 heroes, Rowan and Sloane, who have interesting hobbies. One loves to cook and one loves art, but during their spare time, they love killing people. This dark element in the book is not for everyone, because the details are quite generous and during their killing streaks they are fierce and love to play with their victims. However, both Rowan and Sloane have another side that is very different and you really begin to like them.

The fun fact in the book is their competitiveness, the way they annually meet each other to kill and to keep score of who does it better. It became their tradition and I love to read about it, not only about the urgency to have the quest, but to see each other, because they miss one another.

For me, Rowan was a total surprise, I was not expecting this intense male character, charming, funny and SOOOOOO romantic, that you are under the impression that he is trying to charm you, not Sloane. I was totally in love with him because I loved his efforts to have Sloane by his side, his imagination, and his devotion, which totally made me sway. A serial killer could not get hotter than Rowan Kane.

I was not a fan of Sloane, even though I could understand her and see where her insecurities came from. Having this lifestyle, this unusual hobby is not something your partner can accept lightly, and Rowan apparently is more than fine with it, which is hard to understand. Because of this, Sloane was very reluctant to start something romantically and lingered on that feeling. But they were so sweet and in the middle of all those killing and cruel details, they were such a lovely couple and completed each other in a romantic way I was not expecting.

What can I say more about this book? It’s not your average story, you need to be open-minded, but the love story is amazing and it will make you change your POV over Dark Romance. Rowan and Sloane definitely changed my perspective and I will be reading the next books like I need Air. 😀 I am very curious about Lachlan and Fionn’s adventures and if they will make me feel like Rowan.
