My rating: 5/5 stars
I’ve developed an obsession for this series and it’s not something unusual, considering I devoured Maxton Hall in just a few days. Mona has a very cool style, mixing drama with Romance and putting it all together in books that can really be life lessons. The stories are not the same, each has its own individual trademark and I was living every moment with the characters.
“Trust Again” tells us the story of Dawn and Spencer, 2 characters which we already met in the first book. Sincerely speaking, in the first book I was not drawn to any of them, because I lacked information and I needed their whole background to understand them completely.
To set the record straight, I was not a fan of Dawn. I found her hot and cold, without any idea of what she wanted in the long term. I was not OK with her attitude towards Spencer. But, after deep diving into the story and hearing what happened, I softened because I forgot she was only 20 and had already gone through so much!!! Mona does not let us go so quickly, because she created a whole world for these characters and the drama is persistent and very much alive.
Spencer is also hot and cold and when I come to think of it, very much like Dawn, although his story is unexpected and heartbreaking. I loved the way he approached Dawn, always asking her out and always receiving a “no”. He was so persistent and so funny and even if we got 2 Spencers, I really loved the way he was crafted and brought to us. He had to mature at such a young age and believe me, his story will shock you. 😦
Yes, their relationship was kind of a “friends with benefits” at first, but once you understand what is happening and begin to cheer for them, it’s a really complicated but beautiful love story. I only read 2 books out of 5, but from the looks of it, this is the most complicated story, making a very complex context for the characters to live their love story. Remember, even if they had to grow up so quickly, that doesn’t mean they made the best decisions.
Even if they are teenagers and you expect to read simple and uncomplicated stories, Mona is surprising us with some hard ideas here, because at first sight, all of them are fine, but when you begin to dig into their souls, you discover some amazing stuff, both good and bad. So, don’t judge the stories by their tropes and just live the moment without having any expectations.
