My rating: 3/5 stars
This is my first Catharina Maura book and I’ve read a lot of good reviews about her style but also about the series. So, in search of an easy read, I’ve begun the “The Windsor’s” series, hoping I’ll find what I’m searching for. Did I find it? Hard to say…
The plot reminded me a lot about Lauren Asher and her Dreamland Billionaires, but here I’ve found more drama and more confusing characters. Yes, there is an inheritance in the cards, but here, the Windsor guys don’t have any word in this matter, they just do as they are told. I was a little shocked that grown-up men act that way when their grandmother dictates, but that is their tradition, so I believe it’s a little useless to say something.
This book is about a very complicated soap opera love triangle, which will get on your nerves and will make you become very violent with your book. Ares is committed to marrying Hannah, but their relationship is strained. Hannah is a well-known actress, with a very busy schedule and she keeps on postponing the wedding until she cancels it definitely, because she is not ready. Having no other option, Ares marries Raven, Hannah’s sister, because that is what his grandmother orders him to do (!!!!!). What Ares doesn’t know is that Raven has been in love with him like forever, because initially, she was the chosen one for this arranged marriage, until Hannah did her dirty things and ended up with him. So, Raven has no choice but to see them together, although it hurts a lot.
So, to summarize, Ares will be between his previous love – Hannah- and his wife – Raven, and it will mess with his head big time. Not to mention he will mess with our heads because he will jump from Hannah to Raven with a stupidity I will never comprehend. I’m not talking about cheating, but he will do some things that will prove he is not ready for this marriage, emotionally.
My rating is purely because of Ares and because of his total stage of confusion, for dragging this love triangle on forever and for NOT putting Raven where she deserves. One minute he was running to Hannah, one minute he was saying to Raven he loved her.
I really liked Raven and understood her position, but GOOOOOD, did she have the patience of a saint, I don’t think that I would have accepted this for myself and wanted to be put in that situation, no matter how in love I was. She is beautiful and smart, with an excellent business and she could have anyone she wanted. But no, she insisted on Ares and I sensed a little Stockholm syndrome here. Whatever, the plot was not something I loved, although the story in total was ok and entertaining, it kept me in a constant state of frustration…
I am not very sure I will continue with volume 2, but I’ll keep you posted. 🙂
