My rating: 5/5 stars
This series has been an absolute surprise and pleasure for me. After finishing one book, I was absolutely convinced that THAT one would be my favorite, but I was wrong. Every story had its details and things to love, like every character and plot, but believe me, you are not prepared for the final installment, which is “Scythe & Sparrow“. Fionn was like a revelation for me, because even though I got glimpses of him in the first 2 books, his true nature just pops up in his book, where Brynne is portraying him with all his goods and bad.
Fionn is the last one of the Kanes to tell us his story. He is a well-known doctor, very passionate about his work and committed to only doing good, not like his brothers. He is seeking redemption in a way, after all that went down with his father when they were young, and he promised never to let anyone see a dark side in him. He also felt heartbroken, so love is out of the question for him. All of this until Rose arrives at his medical house, terribly injured and in desperate need of help. After taking care of her, Fionn asks Rose to stay with him until she gets better, only to become addicted to her presence and way of life. They form a friendship which leads, afterwards, to a love story.
In Scythe & Sparrow, the roles are in a way in reverse, Rose being the one with vigilante tendencies and committing the murders, while Fionn is just helping her in covering her tracks. Rose lived all her life in a circus, and her independence and free spirit are something that shook Fionn right to the core and left a mark on him. Their attraction and interactions were so nice, so funny, and full of energy and sparks that you cannot resist loving them.
They were both a surprise for me, because I was not expecting Rose to be this independent and vulnerable, and Fionn to make me fall so in love with him. He will sweep you off your feet with this personality, and when all the walls come down, you will discover a very different Fionn, romantic and charming and sooo passionate. Can you see how much I like him? :)))
The only minor comment that I have about this book is the story plot, because it was not something made for Fionn and Rose. The plot from the previous 2 books is connected with the third one, as in repeating past events to mention Fionn and Rose. We will also move forward from “Leather and Lark” to see what happens to Rose, but also to what happens in the background. it was a smart move from Brynne, but let’s just say that maybe an original plot was required from them. But this is just a minor intervention, I loved the book and it’s my favorite from the series, without any doubt.
