3/5 stars

I can’t believe I am saying this after 4 books from this series, but “Broken Vows” has been a struggle to read. The plot, the whole drama idea, the female character, I don’t even know where to begin. Maybe the first part was ok, but the second – pure torment.

Because I love the series and respect this whole universe Catharina crafted, I didn’t DNF it. I plan to keep on reading it, but I think I will take a break, because I deserve it dearly. Until this book, I was not particularly interested in Zane. He just came and left without leaving an impression on me… Celeste was practically nonexistent, with just some references in book 3. So, considering the way they reacted to one another, something must have happened for their relationship to explode as it did.

Celeste and Zane are part of rival families in the hotel industry, with the Winston’s always getting the upper hand on the Harrison’s. Because of this, their past is marked by rivalry, bullying, and taunting, all gone to a whole different level. Celeste left the country to escape Zane, only to come back to confront a different person, more mature and one accepting his mistakes. They begin a very intense relationship, even though their families don’t agree. So, against all odds, they fight to be together. But Catharina had other plans for them, and what it’s about to happen will shock you completely.

The shocking part was a big NO for me due to various reasons. The whole non-communication thing, the abandonment, the hatred, and the mistrust, all of them led me to wanting to finish the book as soon as possible, so I could finish being a part of this….The only thing I’m willing to admit is that for some pages, the twist got me fooled, but under no circumstances should Celeste have acted the way she did. Considering she loved him, her actions were wrong, immature and stupid. 🙂

Celeste was such a bad character, such an irritating woman. Zane deserved so much more… He could have every woman in the universe, but he was obsessed with her, even after years…Their relationship didn’t feel natural; it felt TOXIC, and for the first time in many reads, I thought that they were better off apart. Dragging this suffering was useless, and it totally killed my vibe. But again, it was not Zane, it was Celeste who spoiled every mood, every little joy I could have when reading the book. She killed the majority of the love scenes, and like in every part she was in, all died on the spot…

I just hope I won’t get to see much of her in book 5. 🙂
