My rating: 4/5 stars

I’ve just finished this series, and I really don’t know what to say about it. It certainly had its ups and downs, with heavy emotions and drama, but also good moments. Yes, it’s very hard to adapt it to real life, but considering we are reading to evade reality, it reached its purpose.

“The Devious Husband” is the last book in the series, focusing on Xavier and Sierra and their rivalry. It’s an enemy-to-lovers book, but very emotional, with deep traumas and unexpected twists which will leave you speechless. I was expecting some of them, but not at this intensity.

As we all figured out, Xavier has been obsessed with Sierra since college, and his mission in life was to be near her, being present in everything she does or loves. He chose to be near her by becoming her worst rival, making up games and situations to piss her off, but feeling more alive than ever before. She is the last of the Windsor’s to get married, and of course, her husband will be Xavier.

After the marriage, we will see different people and different personalities from both of them. Their relationship will become closer, more vulnerable, and we will see how their rivalry will take an unexpected turn. We will see another version of Xavier, more raw, vulnerable, and desperate for Sierra, but also a part who is ashamed of his past deeds, which will affect his relationship with his wife. I wasn’t expecting Xavier to have so many secrets and hidden skeletons, and to see him SO affected by his future with Sierra, but he was certainly a conflicted hero, thinking he was not worthy enough.

Speaking of Sierra, I was expecting her to be so vulnerable either and determined about Xavier and their relationship. Their relationship twisted by the middle of the book, and it became obvious that Sierra needed to fight a little harder to prove to Xavier that he was wrong and that they were a perfect match.

I’ve seen some very emotional reviews about this book and now, after finishing it, I have to say they are a liiiitle exaggerated. The book was nice, but in a way, it followed the same forced marriage trope, without a complex plot or including some elements that will surely add more drama. No – the drama was within the characters and in their search for happiness.

So, after finishing the series, my ranking is:

  1. Luka and Valentina – book 2
  2. Dion and Faye – book 3
  3. Xavier and Sierra – book 6
  4. Lex and Raya – book 5
  5. Ares and Raven – book 1
  6. Zane and Celeste – book 4
