My rating: 4/5 stars
I don’t really understand what is happening with me and with this series, but we are definitely a match. I have spent the last three weeks reading and breathing this series, and the more I dive into the story, the more I enjoy it and fall in love with the characters.
Broken Harbor is the 3rd volume, following Cope and Sutton in their adventurous love story.
Cope Colson is a hockey player, the star of the Sparks team, who, after an encounter with one of his teammates, decides to take a break and return to Sparrow Falls to be with his family and take up some coaching hours at the local hockey club. That is where he meets Luca and his mom, Sutton.
Sutton is running from her past, from her ex-husband, who has gotten himself into all sorts of trouble. Because of him, she and Luca, their son, paid the price, but she decided to leave everything behind and start over. Her small bakery, the Mix Up, is HUGE in Sparrow Falls, but even now, she is struggling financially and tries to save up money to keep Luca in hockey practice. Luca is brilliant and loves hockey so much, but more than that, he is a sweet kid who loves his mom and will do anything for her. This passion he has for hockey will unite Cope and Sutton, and will spark that connection that I loved.
The plot revolves around Sutton’s past and the way she struggles to keep her ex-husband at bay, while keeping Luca safe and trying to begin a relationship with Cope. Cope was a nice surprise for me, because I had the impression that he was more on the superficial side, but I was very wrong. His past is tormenting him as well, keeping all those emotions and blame inside, twisting him and making him feel unworthy of love. I felt so sorry for him after reading his story, and he truly deserved someone to show him the right way and love him. Sutton was a very brave heroine, and I admired her for that. Her courage and vulnerability were very nice to see and follow, because she developed something with Cope, and you could actually see their evolution and love.
There is something very unique about the way the Colson’s love. They are intense, passionate, and ready to give anything to keep their loved ones safe. I loved Cope and Sutton, loved the dynamics of the story, the suspense, and most of all, I loved how they progressed, how they began to trust each other, and finally, how they gave in to love completely. And I need to thank Cope for some very important character – his friend and owner of the Sparks hockey team, Linc. ❤
