My rating: 4/5 stars
This book was a huge surprise for me – I am not the best fan of Mafia Romance, but this story delivered and had me rushing to the second book in no time.
What happens here is the typical story of falling in love without speaking a lot, but using actions and intensity to express what you are feeling. Tristan and Morana are an odd couple, but extremely connected in their feelings and body language, who managed to say too much by only looking at each other. These kind of books are rare, because it’s very difficult to convey that intensity by using short dialogues and being a good storyteller. Runyx managed to do that, and this couple made us fall in love immediately.

Morana is an IT genius, and she made some computer codes that were stolen by an unknown source. Convinced that they were stolen by the rival mafia clan, she infiltrates herself into the core of the family, wanting to murder Tristan Cane, who is our leading hero and also called “The Predator”. Tristan is no blood to the Maroni’s, but he was accepted alongside them, with the rightful heir, Dante. Because of his skills, he is considered deadly, a deadly weapon that cannot be controlled by anyone. He has no heart, is extremely well-trained, and will stop at nothing to get the mission done. However, that night, even if he catches Morana trying to kill him, he lets her go. Something between them happens then, and it will be no turning back.
I was not particularly impressed by Morana, although I loved how fearless she was, how smart, and not afraid to speak her mind, even if she had the head of the Mafia in front of her. My focus on Tristan, on his behavior, on the tension he created with his presence, and on the way he shifted in personality when having Morana by his side. He is a very complex hero, with a dark background and sad story, and his ways of communication are so strange, but so well written that you cannot look away. He is the essence of “touch her or die”, but in the hardcore version, the deadly and painful one.
Even though I loved the couple and their unique approach, I gave the book 4 stars because the pacing of the book was terrible. Not a lot of things happened, and more than that, Runyx has a way of describing ANYTHING with a complex complexity. :))) It’s difficult to explain, but all the emotions, all the scenes are thoroughly described, to the point that for me, they became a little boring. Until now, that was the only fault I’ve discovered, and I cannot wait to dive into the second book to discover what will happen with our couple, but also with the other characters, because I highly enjoyed Dante and Amara. 😀
