My rating: 3.5/5 stars
Dante and Amara are here, and I was very excited to read about their story. I loved Amara more in Predator and Reaper, because she showed me parts of her that are very vulnerable, and her relationship with Morana was amazing. Dante has a burden on his shoulders, and to get rid of his father, he needs to sacrifice what he loves the most – Amara.
So, the book is taking us back to when Amara and Dante were kids. Amara was the first to crush on Dante, but being older, he had other interests and only saw her as the cleaners’ daughter. His father has been crushing his soul from a very young age, and because of this, Dante swore to kill him one day. After Amara was kidnapped and tortured, Dante realized he was in love with her and swore to protect her from all the people who might harm her. Even if they began a relationship, they always kept it a secret until Dante managed to become the King.
He was the brain behind everything, but Amara was the heart.
The kidnapping scenes were awful to read about, and the aftermath of it was even more awful. Amara is truly a warrior, and even living through this, she had this strength that was remarkable to read about. She didn’t forget, but she had the power to move on, to become better and to be Dante’s half in this twisted world.
Dante has the intensity in the relationship, but I didn’t like the way he kept Amara a secret for years. I understood his motives, but he was very lucky that Amara waited for him. The love they shared was great, and even if so many tragic things happened, it only got stronger. Not to understand that Tristan and Morana were nota strong couple, but this couple was different in different ways. Tristan and Morana were more at a feeling level, speaking without actually speaking, while Dante and Amara were more physical, their scenes very intense and powerful, which crafted their relationship from the beginning. They were both united by the same level of hurt and had a common enemy; their love was completed by other feelings as well.
The book was long, many things happened, we went back and forth in some scenes, but altogether, it was more dynamic than Predator and Reaper. We discover things, we live through their eyes, and see the way both relationships develop. Plus, new characters are introduced, leading up to the plot for the next 2 books. Looking forward to book 4.
