My rating: 3/5 stars
Those who read my reviews, know how much I love Mia, considering her my favorite Romance author. Over the past years, Mia made a change in genre, mixing love with thrillers. Some I enjoyed, some not, and unfortunately, “All the Little Raindrops” was among those in the sad camp.
I am so sorry, but the book was different and I was not ready. To sum up, the story follows Noelle and Evan, 2 teenagers found in a tragic situation, being kidnapped and held in a chamber, in a cage. What follows is very difficult to explain, because that part was hard to read. They are raped, asked to sacrifice themselves in order to keep the other safe, and beaten regularly. Somehow, they managed to escape, but this trauma will follow them forever. In the middle of all this, Noelle and Evan form a very strong bond, which will transcend into a physical relationship after breaking free. This part is very difficult to read because Mia is very graphic and besides the beatings and rapes, it also explores the interior conflict of both, which is awful and hard to follow.
Mia went very deep into the emotional side and used it very much to explore the interior monologue, which for some readers like me, can be exhausting and hurtful. I got tired of reading about their hurt and wanted something to relieve their pain, in order to leave me a little to breathe. This is the feeling I had, the story was overwhelming and suffocating, because it contained only pain, with little other details of hope and optimism. Besides that, the plot was a little hard to digest, but it kept me curious as to how Evan and Noelle would figure out who kidnapped them and why.
I was not very happy with this book, I paused it some weeks and started it again, because I needed to understand who was the culprit. I liked Evan as a male hero and didn’t connect with Noelle at all, even if she was brave and I admired her eagerness to survive at all cost.
