Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a new way of living—one without massacres and torn throats and bonfires of the fallen, without revenants or bastard armies or children ripped from their mothers’ arms to take their turn in the killing and dying.
Once, the lovers lay entwined in the moon’s secret temple and dreamed of a world that was a like a jewel-box without a jewel—a paradise waiting for them to find it and fill it with their happiness… This was not that world.
It sounds lovely right? This series fascinated me after reading the first page and made me extremely curious, because this universe presented in the book was worth exploring. The second installment left me speechless and I can sincerely say that Laini writes like no other. It is impossible to copy her or to even come close to her style. Her characters, the plot and the whole universe she crafted is unique and it will intrigue and drawn you from the first page.
The action continues where “Daughter of Smoke and Bone” left off and unfortunately, Karou and Akiva are more separated than ever.
Karou suffers a lot after the loss of her friends and only family she ever known. She is different and her feelings therefore are different, she mourns differently. Her strong personality and her abilities make her a special person, but even when having this pluses, she suffers like nobody else. She evolves a lot, finding answers to old questions and still managing to have that vulnerability that readers adore. Doubts, suffering and ghosts haunt her continuously, and driven by vengeance, she wants to see the ones who caused her pain, killed. Karou makes unhappy alliances and doesn’t take the best decisions. Her desire for peace will trigger some awful decisions and the way she will obtain it will be spelled in blood.
Akiva, once a soldier fighting against demons, changed radically over the first book. After the love of his life was killed in front of him a long time ago, Akiva was guided by the same revenge thirst that guides Karou now. But because of what happens in the first book, he has a chance now to change everything, including destiny. He wants peace as well as Karou, but his ways are different than Karou’s. He is more peaceful, fighting without blood lost, because he wants to be worthy of her love. What he doesn’t know is that Karou took another path, which he cannot follow anymore. I really enjoyed the way our characters interacted throughout this book, but I will let you discover it for yourself.
“Days of Blood and Starlight” is more mature and darker than the first book. The evolution is visible and it can be related in everything that makes up this book. The target readers are now more mature, ready to feel the horror of war and the terrible consequences of battles and betrayals. I have to admit that certain scenes surprised me and socked me a little, because reality can be very well.. real:) We meet again with old characters but also discover new ones, that will have an impact upon the readers. The emotional charge is present and palpable, and I know a lot of you guys will be impressed by the plot and things that occur to our characters.
I love this series and recommend it warmly, because Laini’s style is amazing and out of this word literally. It is hard to digest, I repeat, but it is worthy. It gives you that vibe and energy and makes you want to be with your characters and life their story as authentic as possible.

A fost odată ca niciodată, când un înger și un demon s-au îndrăgostit și au sperat la o lume lipsită de vărsare de sânge și război. Dar, asta nu e nicicum lumea imaginată de ei.
Sună bine, nu-i așa? Încă de la primul volum, această serie m-a fascinat și m-a făcut extrem de curioasă, deoarece are un aer aparte ce merită explorat. “Vremuri de sânge și străluciri de stele” de Laini Taylor este volumul doi dintr-o serie care m-a lăsat fără cuvinte și pot spune sincer că este unică.Cunosc destul de bine literatura contemporană și un stil asemănător lui Laini nu am mai întâlnit. Acest lucru amestecat cu personajele complexe și frumos conturate dau o notă deosebită poveștii și sunt convinsă că va reuși să vă captiveze de la prima pagină.
Acțiunea continuă la puțin timp după ce “Născută din Fum și Os” s-a terminat și din păcate personajele noastre principale, Karou și Akiva, sunt mai despărțite ca niciodată.
Karou suferă enorm după pierderea trăită și modul în care face față situației este, să spunem, caracteristic ei. Ea nu este o fată obișnuită, pornind de la aspect și terminând cu personalitatea puternică și acest lucru se vede în modul în care își vindecă rănile. Se dezvoltă foarte mult ca personaj, deoarece acum o mare parte din întrebările ei și-au găsit răspunsul. Are în continuare îndoieli, suferă, este dezorientată, însă este mânată de dorința de răzbunare ce îi definește calea mult timp. Face alianțe nepotrivite și de multe ori nu ia deciziile cele mai bune. Dorește o lume îmbrăcată în pace, însă modul în care luptă pentru acest ideal mi-a ridicat multe semne de întrebare.
Akiva, cândva un soldat perfect ce lupta împotriva demonilor, s-a schimbat radical. S-a schimbat din nou putem spune. După ce acum mult timp marea sa iubire a murit în fața lui, Akiva a fost mânat de aceeași sete de răzbunare care o alimentează pe Karou momentan. Însă datorită evenimentelor din volumul 1, el are acum șansa să își schimbe destinul. La rândul său dorește pacea, însă abordează situația diferit față de Karou și luptă pentru idealul său fără vărsare de sânge. Vrea să fie demn de ea, deși știe că aceasta nu o să fie lângă el să vadă ceea ce face.
Curios a fost modul în care aceste două personaje au interacționat pe parcursul cărții, însă va las pe voi să descoperiți la ce anume mă refer.
Acest volum este mult mai matur și mai întunecat decât primul. Evoluția se vede și în acțiune, în modul în care totul ne este relatat. Publicul țintă este acum unul mai matur, pregătit să citească despre realitatea crudă a războiului. Recunosc, m-au surprins puțin anumite scene, însă realismul lor depășește vizualul dur. Ne reîntâlnim cu personaje mai vechi ce ne-au încântat și facem cunoștință cu unele noi, care vor trezi sentimente mixte în fiecare cititor. Încărcătura emoțională este și ea foarte prezentă în paginile cărții și sigur cei mai sensibili dintre voi veți cădea victimă multor situații impresionante.
Recomand cu mare căldură această poveste, deoarece stilul lui Laini depășește orice imaginație și spun acest lucru de câte ori am ocazia. Este un stil unic, destul de dificil, care însă te antrenează și te incită să fii alături de personajele tale preferate și să le trăiești povestea.
