My Dark Romeo by Parker S. Huntington and L.J. Shen

I think 2024 will be dedicated to L.J.Shen and I will read all of her books, just to catch up with the unread ones. So far, so good, I’ve encountered a very special author, who writes in a very particular way, but very close to my liking and my standards.

Initially, I thought that “My Dark Romeo” was a duology and that the story would go on in volume 2, but as I was reading it, I understood it’s a standalone. Dallas and Romeo are not your special and sweet couple, from my POV they are crazy and derailed, but I loved them dearly. The story itself was a little derailed also, but the way these 2 wrote it, you become addicted to reading further and faster.

Dallas was promised for marriage to another man, but Romeo has other plans for her. After staging an embarrassing encounter, Romeo has the freedom to claim Dallas, although his interest in her is nonexistent. She is using her for revenge and will stop at nothing to destroy his enemies, including his father. What will happen in real life is different from all the scenarios Romeo drafted, because his feelings will come in his way and will hijack everything he worked for so hard.

Neither Romeo nor Dallas are sane, but they are entertaining to watch. Their dialogues were sarcastic and funny, with that intelligent irony that made me laugh a lot. Their spice scenes were interesting, clearly not for kids, but I put my money down that they were written by Shen, because they have her trademark. They were shocking, kind of weird, and exciting to imagine in real life. The story had its fair share of drama, funny scenarios, and WOW elements. I love the banter between the couple, it was very well made and anticipated a lot through the end of the story.

I also loved Zach and Oliver, Romeo’s friends and the future leading males of the next books. I loved the way they never got Dalla’s name correct, always naming her various cities 😀 and the WhatsApp conversations WERE SO FUNNY, mostly my favorite moments from this crazy trio.

So, all is set and done – book 2 here I come 😀
