A Not So Meet Cute by Meghan Quinn

My rating: 3.5 stars

I bought the whole trilogy in one of my “bookish” episodes and a few days ago, I said it’s time to give them a try, because why not? I am very intrigued about the obsession authors have with the name “Cane”, which in various formulas comes down to the name pronunciation. But ignoring that, I understood that the series is funny and witty and extremely sexy, so why noooot? Let’s give it a try.

“A not so meet cute” follows Lottie and Huxley, 2 characters who are forced into a fake relationship for various reasons. Huxley is a real estate mogul, with an obsession with business and when he wants something, he gets it. His prize is a land in which he desperately wants to invest, but he must connect with the owner on a personal level and therefore, he tells him that he has a pregnant fiance… WRONG – he is single and the least interested in having a relationship.

Lottie has just been fired, with a lot of student loans, and needs a lifeline to move forward. Without any direction, she makes a joke that she needs to get herself a rich husband, therefore she walks into a rich area of houses and bumps into Huxley, who happens to be looking for a fake fiance. After some discussions and some pressure from Huxley, Lottie agrees to fake date him and even befriend his investor’s fiancee, only to land him the deal.

What can I say about this book? It was a little blurry and the moments of the action were not very precise. I understood where Huxley stood and his intentions, but I am a little over my head with cold-hearted characters who don’t have the slightest idea of how to live and in what reality are they living. He doesn’t want to love, doesn’t care about having someone around and I always have it really hard to relate to this type of character, because I don’t feel it to.

Lottie on the other hand was much more enjoyable, but I found her a little too exciting for my tastes and didn’t relate at all to her. She was adventurous, fierce, and fearless, but an attitude but also very expressive in certain encounters. I think that I lacked a connection with both characters, which is a shame…

The story was funny at the beginning, but it ended up being a little boring, rushed, and with some boring drama also… I don’t know, it was not a bad book, but nothing with a twist, with salt and pepper. Maybe I’m broken… :)))
