Years ago, when I started reading romance novels, one of my favorite series was “The Hearts” series by L.H. Cosway. I loved the concept, the plot, and the characters. This series has a special place in my heart because it felt different from other stories.
In a way, I wasn’t wrong because it seems that the series holds a special place in the author’s heart as well. She wrote a second-generation book featuring the children of the couples from the original stories. I think this idea is delightful and evokes many nostalgic memories, as Jay and Matilda were a strong couple. Additionally, the plot of “Six of Hearts” was really intriguing and it deserves to have a continuity.
This is the story of Jace, the son of Jay and Matilda, and Shannon, their neighbor who was taken in by the Fields family because of her neglectful and uncaring background. Jace and Shannon quickly became friends, and as they reached their teenage years, they fell in love. However, there is only limited detail about their relationship during that time.
The narrative then shifts to the present, where we learn that Jace and Shannon are divorced but share an eight-year-old daughter named Zara. We also discover that Jace is the lead singer of a popular band but has been struggling with a drug addiction, which ultimately contributed to the end of their marriage.
The main plot centers around Jace’s determination to win Shannon back and prove that he can be the man she and Zara deserve. Jace is a loving father who deeply cares for Zara, but his mission is to make Shannon regain her trust in him and accept him back into their lives.
Additionally, there is a secondary plot involving a catfish who has been impersonating Jace and asking money from people online. The group will focus on finding this catfish and putting an end to their deceptive activities.
The catfish plot was my main issue. From my perspective, it started strong and intense but ended poorly without any spectacular outcome. I waited a long time for my answer; throughout the plot, things became interesting, but by the final pages, I was disappointed with the results and how the puzzle was solved – it felt unfinished or rushed. My rating reflects this because all the buildup felt inconsistent, and the ending was a bit flat and simple.
On the other hand, I really enjoyed Jace and Shannon’s intense second-chance romance. Jace was determined and driven, making him a compelling character. While the steamy scenes were limited, they were well-written and added the intensity a love story needs. I also appreciated reading about Jay, Matilda, Jack, and the others, and it was nice to see the second generation interact with them. Although I’m not entirely sure how all the characters turned out, there were some direction give to the readers from some characters – here I hope the author plans to continue the series, as there may still be opportunities for them to redeem themselves and improve.
Overall, I was happy with the read, it was nice and relaxing, but there were some misses which I had to highlight.
