When it comes to Catherine Cowles, she is undoubtedly the romance author who writes suspense the best. Her love stories blended with action and thriller are the best, making the reading experience incredible for readers. If you want a good love story, action, plot building, and good characters, she is your author. I wanted a good story, so I got one, which btw, it’s similar to her previous stories, but the characters have a different chemistry and background, making every read a different experience.
Ridley Sawyer lost her twin sister when she was 16 and justice became her mission. She started an investigative podcast, trying to bring closure to the families who suffered like hers. Her job brought her to many cities and places, but she never stayed in one place. She is so driven to learn what happened to her sister that nothing else matters. Until Sheriff Colter Brooks gets in her way…
Putting the pieces back together, Ridley ends up at Shady Cove to talk to the first victim of her sister’s kidnapper, who happens to be Colt’s sister. Even though she is not welcomed, Ridley isn’t backing down and continues her investigation, talking to people and trying to win them over by telling her story. She is so committed to finding closure that she is now aware of the dangers around her and the wounds she can reopen with this case. Because she needs to talk to Colt’s sister, their relationship will be very shaky at the beginning, but they will learn to work together and eventually fall in love. They will understand that they need to work together and that adventure will have a lot of revelations, but will also heal a lot in the process.
Ridley and Colt are 2 alike personalities, and it was very fun to see them interact and knock heads. He is protective and doesn’t trust easily, while she is stubborn and committed to the cause. I liked this couple, and I loved that the main focus was not only on them, but also on the investigation, delivering bits and pieces until unveiling the shocking truth.
Catherine Cowles continues to deliver suspense romance stories, putting her trademark in her work and doing exactly what she knows best – making us turn every page in a frantic way and feel intensely every chapter together with our beloved characters.
