Mia Sheridan is one of my favorite writers and Archer’s Voice from my point of view is her best book.
The story is addictive and very soon you will be part of it with all your heart.
Bree Prescott wants a new start in life and although many will find it weird, she chooses a secluded lakeside town to begin her new journey. Everyone seems very nice and things are finally making sense for her: peace, time for herself and for the things she loves and trying to keep out the memories that harmed her.
Everything is about to change when she meets Archer Hale, a strange boy that manages to catch her attention. He is very complex in so many ways: beautiful on the outside but damaged on the inside. Soon Bree takes on the mission to get to know Archer because in a way she relates to him: they have the same hurt, they both went through a lot in life. The thing that makes Arches special is that he can’t talk and can only communicate with her by the sign language.
This is an unique element in the book, I have never read anything like this before. The two form a strong bond that will soon become love. Their relationship is very special- at the beginning exploring each other and their new feelings and by the end they are inseparable. You come to see that two apparently different people discover that they have so many thing in common, they can’t live without each other.
The scenes between them were amazing, full of tenderness, passion, joy, sometimes anger and angst, but they connected so well you could feel their genuine love.
Thanks to the amazing writing style we can get to know Archer and Bree better, to live with them the present events and also the past one, to see exactly what made them the people they are today. For me is important to get to explore a character past and present, to have all side of his story in order to make an opinion about him.
In this way the reader can choose to empathize and live the story as strongly as possible without feeling excluded or kept in the dark about certain elements. This is the thing that I love about Mia’s book: total knowledge of her characters and in this way all that you are reading makes sense, because you get recollection of everything that happens throughout the story.
In this book Mia presents an issue that can be debatable in real life: people with disabilities are often judged and secluded from the rest of the word because of this issues. Bree was the one who accepted Archer and loved him with all the pro’s and con’s.
It is a very important lesson to learn and keep in mind that the beauty of a person is his heart, not his exterior. Beauty fades in time, but the feeling remain as strong as possible. Mia thought us how to love people by what they offer us and what can we learn from them, not by the beauty of their face and body.

Când vine vorba despre genul romantic, prima scriitoare ce-mi apare în gând este indiscutabil Mia Sheridan. Am citit toate cărţile ei, însă “Vocea lui Archer” mi-a rămas în suflet şi de acolo am început să explorez stilul şi poveştile ei, fiind fascinată de diversitatea personajelor oferite, precum şi de temele variate pe care le expune. Toate cărţile ei sunt un exerciţiu de viaţă, ce îţi schimbă de cele mai multe ori modul în care gândeşti sau măcar te fac să reflectezi intens asupra unor aspecte.
“Vocea lui Archer” este cea mai cunoscută carte a Miei şi cu ajutorul acesteia a devenit faimoasă şi iubită de milioane de cititori. Povestea lui Archer a topit şi emoţionat multe inimi tocmai prin intriga pe care o abordează, ce pentru mine, a fost unică si superb scrisă.
Vreau să pot să te iubesc mai mult decât îmi este teamă că te pierd, şi nu ştiu cum să fac asta. Învaţă-mă, Bree! Te rog, învaţă-mă! Dumnezeule, Archer. Cum să înveţi un bărbat care a pierdut tot să nu se teamă că va pierde totul din nou?
Bree Prescott doreşte să lase în urmă un trecut ce a marcat-o. Tatăl ei a fost omorât şi în urma acestei tragedii, totul s-a schimbat pentru ea. Nu o mai leagă nimic de oraşul în care cei doi aveau un mic restaurant şi doreşte să înceapă un nou capitol, undeva mai retras, pentru a putea încet încet să se vindece. Alege să locuiască într-o căsuţă la marginea unui lac şi totul pare că începe să se redreseze pentru ea. Are parte de linişte, mai mult timp pentru ea şi nu trebuie neapărat să socializeze cu oamenii din acel orăşel.
Îl întâlneşte pe Archer Hale, un tânăr deosebit ce îi atrage atenţia imediat. Totul este îmbrăcat în mister când vine vorba despre Archer. Acesta nu vorbeşte, este antisocial, are frică de necunoscut şi pare complet inadaptat societăţii în care trăieşte. Bree leagă o prietenie cu acest băiat, în principal pentru că este singura care îl poate înţelege, cei 2 comunicând prin limbajul semnelor. Ştie că ceva nu este în regulă cu el, pentru că privirea lui este oglinda privirii ei, în care nu vede decât durere, teamă şi vulnerabilitate. În curând cei doi se vor îndrăgosti, dar povestea lor este una tulbure, unde destinul îşi va pune amprenta de multe ori.
Mia Sheridan tratează foarte multe subiecte delicate în această carte, pornind de la modul în care Archer este văzut de societatea în care trăieşte. Deoarece nu poate vorbi, toţi îl văd ca pe un ciudat, un inadaptat, periculos pentru cei din jur. Puţini îi ştiu povestea, dar şi aşa, judecă şi îl includ într-o categorie nemeritată. Deoarece nu îl înţeleg, se tem de el şi astfel, Archer alege să seizoleze pentru a se proteja. Cartea ne prezintă şi anumite pasaje din trecutul eroilor nostri, astfel încât, noi cititorii, avem o imagine de ansamblu şi vedem ce anume i-a adus în această ipostază.
Povestea dintre Bree şi Archer este una dintre cele mai frumoase, dar şi cele mai încărcate de emoţie, poveşti citite până în prezent. Relaţia dintre cei doi este clădită pe încredere şi mi-a plăcut enorm să văd cât de vulnerabili şi sinceri au putut să fie unul cu altul. Bree încearcă să îi redea speranţa şi să îl înveţe să iubească, dar Archer este foarte temător şi ezitant, tocmai pentru că a suferit mult în viaţă şi o altă durere l-ar sfâşia definitiv. Bree însă îi schimbă viaţa, perspectiva şi îl face mai matur, mai hotărât şi îi arată că lumea are multe să îi ofere.
Recomand cu căldură această carte, cu un mesaj puternic, ce arată cum două persoane atât de diferite pot găsi dragostea atunci când se aşteaptă mai puţin. Accentul pus pe sentimente şi nu pe aparenţe este puternic subliniat şi arată cât de mult contează să preţuieşti persoana iubită pentru ceea ce îţi oferă nu pentru ceea observi la exterior. De multe ori avem tendinţa de a judeca fără să vedem esenta lucrurilor, însă sunt convinsă că după ce veţi citi această carte, veţi putea vedea altfel lucrurile și aprecia mai mult ceea ce aveți.
